These cards include a set of alphabet cards and a set of picture cards illustrating the shapes from the 'Casey the Caterpillar' story.   This resource is used to support the approach developed by Barbara Brann known as:  ‘Magic Caterpillar - Handwriting:  A Process to Teach Correct Letter Formation.

Using the sets of cards, children learn in a fun way how to connect the shapes from 'Casey the Caterpillar' story to form letters of the alphabet.    Games can be used as whole class activities or within small groups. 


The cards come in two sizes.  The small playing card size could be used in literacy rotations and the larger size could be used for whole class teaching activities.     Please note, at least two sets of small cards are recommended when using the cards as an activity in literacy rotations.


To optimise results in teaching the foundational skills addressed in the ‘Magic Caterpillar - Handwriting:  A Process to Teach Correct Letter Formation - it is recommended to read the Teacher’s Manual and attend Professional Development Training.
